IGN app and free month of Gold

IGN and Microsoft have become a duo that’s blessing us all with a pair of gifts. The first gift is today’s IGN app which allows access to various IGN video content from the 360 dashboard. Presumably this will save the hassle of using the YouTube app to find them or consulting a computer for your IGN video fix or handy walkthrough.

The IGN app is available to Xbox LIVE Gold* members in the U.S., and includes the following features:

  • Game previews, reviews, guides and gameplay videos.
  • ‘Instant access’ to game help walkthroughs and IGN’s extensive catalog of popular shows, including “The Daily Fix,” “Strategize,” “Weekly ‘Wood” and more.
  • Live streams of eSports events and content from the IGN Pro League, as well as inside access to events like E3.
  • Movie reviews and exclusive trailers.
  • Facebook sharing through Xbox LIVE.

Xbox Live Gold unlocked this weekend for entertainment apps

From April 19th through April 23rd, gamers and owners of Xbox will be able to try out Xbox Live Gold membership functions free of charge. Through this promotion, users will be able to tap into entertainment applications like Crackle, Syfy, TODAY, TMZ, VEVO and a whole slew of others. The full listing is displayed at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/entertainment-unlocked.

For those services like Netflix or Hulu Plus that require a membership, free trials will be on hand during this period to new customers only. Those who have used a free trial previously won’t be able to double dip.

Unfortunately, those looking for a free multiplayer experience this time around will be sorely disappointed. This trial period is for entertainment applications only as part of a promotion to generate interest in music, television and movie services on Xbox.
