Kinect Demo Roundup

Over the last few days, some new Kinect demos have cropped up on the marketplace. Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth and Dance Central 3 now have demos for you to play and help decide whether you’ll pick up the full games later this month. Dance Central 3 is due for release in the US on the 16th and 19th in Europe. Marvel Avengers on the other hand is out on the 30th in the US and coming soon in Europe; though retailers seem to have November 9th down for preorders.

Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth is being developed at Ubisoft Quebec; the same team behind the super hero themed PowerUp Heroeswhich was reasonably good. The demo involves a singular battle pitting The Hulk and Thor versus Captain America Skrull and Magneto Skrull. If it sounds fun then stick it in your download queue here.

Dance Central 3, the latest installment in the ever popular dance series, also has a demo; which you can grab here. This installment will offer more of the same core gameplay; as well as a “beginner” difficulty, a story mode and some expanded multiplayer party modes.

If you pick up either of them, we would love to hear what you think in the comments below.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Game review

The Adventures of Tintin: The Game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released on December 6th, 2011 and retails for $39.99 MSP.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Game follows the exploits of Tintin the journalist, from the popular film and comic series, The Adventures of Tintin. Throughout this adventure, you’ll find yourself doing everything from piloting planes, sneaking through ships at sea, to sword fighting with pirates from the past. The Adventures of TinTin aims high for a game based on a movie and attempts to live up to all the big-screen glory of its Peter Jackson directed counterpart. While the final representation may lack innovation, it promises to bring a plethora of smiles and laughs to your living room.

The first of the game’s campaigns is essentially a straight-forward re-tread of the events of the 2011 film. The second campaign can be played solo or with any partner that your heart desires. It takes place after the events of the movie and follows Captain Haddock’s dreams after he is knocked out. It is similar to the first campaign, but unique in the fact that a friend can come along for the ride. Haddock’s dream campaign has over twenty levels and each one is of relatively decent length. There are also mini-games that can played with or without Kinect that end up being hit or miss.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier “Raven Strike” DLC announced and dated

Ubisoft has announced single-player DLC for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier titled Raven Strike. The pack will add three new missions and one new Guerilla Mode map. The first of the three single-player missions is Secure Dawn which will occur in a “foggy marsh in Kazakhstan” and block the use of advanced technology. This means that optical camouflage, drones, and sensor grenades will not be available for the mission.

The other two missions are titled Cold Walker which takes place in “a train depot on the Russian countryside” and Argent Thunder, “a night urban setting in Moscow.” The Guerilla Mode map known as Sawmill, will take place “on a foggy Russian countryside.” The DLC will cost 1200 Microsoft Points or $15 and will be available on September 11th. Ubisoft also said that the team is hard at work on further DLC but no new announcements were made.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist Gamescom demo gets controversial

[springboard type="youtube" id="IgH0G-C7k8M" player="xbla001" width="640" height="360" ]

The Splinter Cell: Blacklist Gamescom demo has been released in the video form, which can be found above. Although it is essentially the E3 demo there is one major difference; A highly controversial player controlled torture scene. We could go into detail, but we’ll avoid graphic descriptions and allow you to decide if you want to watch the legendary Sam Fisher go to work or not. Speaking of decisions, the updated demo also reveals that players will have moral decisions to make throughout the game, like whether to take mercy and lay your own torture victim to rest, or leave him to suffer. The inclusion of this content has caused quite an uproar within the industry about the morality of forcing players to commit digital war crimes, and one of the most merciless acts against another human one can conceive. We’ll let you decide for yourself. Check out the Gamescom demo in the video above and tell us what you think by leaving a comment below.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist marks the return of the iconic Sam Fisher, but in a bold more-action packed direction. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Sam is essentially in the middle of an all out war as he works to stop (along with the newly formed Fourth Echelon) a terrorist organization that continues to escalate attacks against the United States. It’s also worth noting that Blacklist marks the first time that Michael Ironside will not be voicing Sam Fisher, as evident in the Gamescom demo. Multiplayer fans will be excited to learn that the game will include both co-operative modes as well as the return of Spies versus Mercs, first made popular by Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

In case you need to jog your memory, Blacklist‘s Kinect support comes in the form of voice commands. Players can make noises that Kinect picks up on, that will attract enemy attention and hopefully lure them into the trap that you’re ready to spring. Splinter Cell: Blacklist will hit the Xbox 360 sometime in the spring of 2013.
