Skyrim Dawnguard confirmed for June 26

Following a successful beta run this past week, Bethesda has announced (via Twitter) that the first DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will launch on schedule June 26 (1600 MSP), an Xbox exclusive launch ahead of PC and PS3. Dawnguard brings approximately 10-20 hours of additional gameplay, roughly the same length as other faction quest lines, such as completing the Thieves’ Guild  (revealed at E3). Along with the new story and quests, the DLC adds new features including vampire lord and werewolf skill trees; there’s even a spectral mount.

The main story of the DLC surrounds the struggle between the Dawnguard, a brotherhood of vampire hunters and the pure vampires, lead by Lord Harkon (featured in the Dawnguard trailer). Additional content includes: side quests, the Soul Cairn realm (a plane of Oblivion), a host of new skills, new weaponry, new shouts, and an assortment of  creatures and characters; including one woman in Riften who allows players to change their character’s appearance (another E3 reveal). Are there  any of the rumored Snow Elves? It’s possible, but, when asked at E3, Todd Howard stopped short of directly confirming it. The DLC is integrated such that it comes seamlessly incorporated as part of the existing Skyrim world, accessible within the regular game. Characters need to be level 10 to begin the main Dawnguard quests, which begin at the far North of Skryim.

The debut trailer and release date for Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC are here

Bethesda Softworks has revealed that the highly anticipated Dawnguard add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is currently scheduled to release on June 26th. While the release date is described as “tentative”, select owners of the game on Xbox 360 may not have to wait that long to play the DLC. Bethesda has also announced that they are running a beta for Dawnguard, which you can sign up for, by following this link. In case you needed some motivation to do so, check out the debut trailer for Dawnguard above.

Originally released last holiday season, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim quickly became one of the year’s biggest critical successes and one of the best selling role-playing games on the Xbox 360. Opening an enormous world containing a seemingly endless amount of content, players still find themselves questing and hunting down dragons, seven months after release. Back in May, Kinect support was added to the game, in the form of voice commands, which allow players to spice up their experience by adding their own voice to the mix, breathing new life into their character.

Skyrim patch brings battle in the saddle this June

*UPDATE: Bethesda announced (via Twitter) that Update 1.6 will launch the last week in June, the same week as the first DLC, Dawnguard.

Announced on Twitter with an accompanying post on Bethblog, Bethesda Softworks released plans for another free patch coming soon to consoles and PC. Update 1.6 will deliver a wealth of bug fixes (including numerous repairs to the Kinect integration introduced via the previous update) along with mounted combat! Both melee and ranged combat will be available to players while riding via the upcoming patch. So whether it’s Shadowmere, Frost, or that random horse you just stole; gone are the days of running away or dismounting when trouble interrupts your ride. No exact date has been given for console launch, but the specifics of the update were covered in detail in the official announcement posted on Bethesda’s Bethblog site, which you can find below.

Kinect support coming to Skyrim this month

After their GDC video showing off the Kinect support that an Elder Scroll team member had hacked into the game, many folks began to wonder how long it would be before Bethesda patched Skyrim to include this awesome feature. That question has been answered today with the announcement of a free title update sometime this month. In addition to the expected voice commands – the ability to perform shouts and control your allies – Bethesda has some tricks up its sleeves. You’ll be able to assign voice hotkeys to items, so saying “axe” or “fire spell” will quickly whip those out. They’ve also enhanced the admittedly clunky inventory interface, allowing players to easily sort by things like weight or cost. In total they promise that over 200 commands will be present in the update.

It’s great to see Kinect support being added to such a high profile title, and what they’re doing seems like it’ll be even better than Mass Effect‘s voice commands. What do you think about the addition of Kinect support to Skyrim? Check out the video below, then let us know in the comments!
