What we are playing: June 3

What we are playing is a weekly column published every Sunday. Various members of the team let the world know which games have had them hooked over the past week and which they’re looking forward to.

Before we get rolling, we’d like to take a moment to point out that many of our staff members will be tweeting live reactions to the events of E3 2012, which kicks off tomorrow. Make sure you follow @XKFans on Twitter, as well as each of our staff members to stay up to speed on the industry’s biggest event of the year! You can navigate to each of our writer’s Twitter profiles by following the link on staff section on the right hand side of every page.

Ryan Reynolds- This week was basically the same as last week for me. All Diablo III and Max Payne 3. I hate to say it, but I am truly disappointed with Diablo III. For such a great universe, the story, writing and presentation in the game are down right bad. Not to mention the whole thing is pretty shallow and repetitive. Conversely, I started another run through Max Payne 3, which has absolutely great presentation and story telling.

Sean Prideaux- This week I’ve been playing The World Ends With You and Folklore, with a little Mad Riders and Shank‘s co-op campaign. I really enjoy RPG’s that are a little different and and more action orientated and both of those games do it well. Folklore has it’s problems but was still fun. TWEWY on the other hand, is nearly perfect and I’m really enjoying it.

Nate Hubler- This week I actually played quite a bit. I have been ended and started a new season in NCAA Football 2011 and I’m actually having a blast playing through the game. I also tried to get back into in Orcs Must Die but I think we will have to part ways. Not to mention I started playing Minecraft on the PC again with some friends of mine.

Scott Waldyn- I took a trip to a warped Wonderland with Alice: Madness Returns. Great story! It’s fantastic, teeth-chattering, and deep. The gameplay however is a little repetitive and lacking, leaving much to be desired. It’s as if levels were extended to round out a certain number of hours in order to justify a game that has a relatively short, while phenomenal, story.

What we are playing: May 27, 2012

What we are playing is a weekly column published every Sunday. Various members of the team let the world know which games have had them hooked over the past week and which they’re looking forward to.

Scott Waldyn- Dead Island. I thought it was time I go wander around a zombie-infested street hacking and slashing my way to freedom. It’s fun. A bit repetitive near the end of the campaign, but the multiplayer can be a fun experience. Part of my ravenous hunger to dive back into this title was brought on by a zombie-flick marathon I went on recently. I had an itching to go C.H.U.D. hunting.

Nate Hubler- This week was actually fairly large for me. I’ve been playing through Orcs Must Die but I’m not really sure the game is for me. It seems to me that the game hinges on having to repeat levels and strive for perfection. I have also been playing Minecraft with some friends which is a ton of fun. I also popped in NCAA Football 2011 since I was sick and needed something that required little thinking. Lets just say the game is still incredibly fun.

Sean Prideaux- It’s a bit of a follow up week for me. I started Mass Effect 3‘s campaign and should have it finished very soon. I started it when I got burnt out on the multiplayer and it’s just too tempting to finish the trilogy. I also fit in a little Warlock and some Punchtime Explosion on 3DS.

Ryan Reynolds- Pretty much the same as last week for me. I finished Max Payne 3, which ended up being an amazing ride. The narrative that the game pulls the player into is just truly great. I’ve also been playing Diablo III, which on the other hand, is kind of disappointing me. I just started the third act. The second act was pretty bland and repetitive.

What we are playing: May 20, 2012

What we are playing is a weekly column published every Sunday. Various members of the team let the world know which games have had them hooked over the past week and which they’re looking forward to.

Ryan Reynolds- This week was all about two games; Diablo III and Max Payne 3. I didn’t touch anything else. I played Diablo for 9 hours straight once I sat down to play it, which I’m sure is nothing compared to many others out there. On the Max Payne front, I’m enjoying it, but I’m undecided on how I feel about it overall thus far. It’s definitely good, but I’m not sure if it achieves must own status. I’m still treading through, so we’ll see.

Andy Tran- This week I dove into the grab bag of indie games that I have on Steam. I had a little taste of Trine 2, which I’m told has a very good multiplayer mode. Then The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and Atom Zombie Smasher for some puzzle and brain use. Then to top it all off – a game with an amazing soundtrack – Bastion. It really drew me in with the story and even more with the combat.

Nick DePetris- I got Alan Wake last week and have already played through the entire campaign. It was a thriller! I also played a ton more Awesomenauts and started off the musical adventure of Sword and Sworcery. I’m loving it so far, very cool style.

Scott Waldyn- Yeah… I’m still playing Skyrim. Sorry for the lack of an update or a switch, but I must complete it. My obsession for it is bordering on a Batman rogues’ gallery level of obsession.

Sean Prideaux- It’s been mostly Mass Effect 3 this week and very little else. As I am making my way through Mass Effect and ME2 before I start the campaign on 3, I sunk most of my time into playing the multiplayer. I’ve just moved off of bronze modes and now I’m playing silver for the extra credit rewards.

Nate Hubler- I finally finished Rayman Origins off and got all of the Skull Teeth. I also picked up Orcs Must Die during the XBLA sale so I have been starting to sink my own teeth into that.
