Wreckateer hits Xbox Live Arcade July 25th, but to get gamers ready, Microsoft Studios has released this brief video that lays out the goal of this game and how to play it. The video alleviates some concerns that Wreckateer would be just a launch and watch device, talking at length over how Kinect users will be able to interact with the shot, using their hands to curve it to their liking. Get XBLA Kinect title Haunt for free
Update: As noted by Twitter friend @ChrissyTheBairn and confirmed by Major Nelson, this is US only and will last until July 2.
Although it was a bit on the easy side of things, we were big fans of Haunt back when it launched. Now there is almost no reason to not try it, as it is available for free on the Xbox dashboard. Here’s how you can get it: You’ll need to be signed in to Xbox Live, but it doesn’t matter if you have a Silver (free) or Gold account. On the home tab, click on Kinect Central (the top-right box). On the first screen you see the featured box should say “Get Haunt for free”. Click it. It’s that easy! Let us know what you think of the game if you do get around to picking it up.
Thanks to @kitlerc for tipping us off to this great deal.
Wreckateer release date
Major Nelson has released the Summer of Arcade release dates, including the Kinect game Wreckateer. The game is second in the lineup, releasing on July 25th; a week after the Tony Hawk remake starts off Summer of Arcade 2012. It’ll be there for 800MSP, making it the cheapest of the five games, to sweeten the already lovely lineup, you can earn back 400MSP for purchasing any three of the games (not sure whether buying any more on top of this will increase your savings further.
If you’re wondering what the game is like then head over to here and here for Nick DePetris‘ previews on the game and its developers, Iron Galaxy (SPOILER: Its looking good).
Preview: Wreckateer is a smashing good time
When Microsoft pulled the curtains back on their always-exciting Summer of Arcade lineup last week at E3, I wasn’t one bit surprised to see Wreckateer filling out the XBLA Kinect slot. I’ve already extolled its virtues in my PAX East preview, and that was just based on a few minutes with the game. Recently I had the opportunity to stop by Iron Galaxy and catch up with CEO Dave Lang on why everyone should be keeping an eye on this exciting new XBLA game.
Kinect Sports: Season Two has an All Access Pass

Midnight Mountain Ski Pack – three all-new Skiing slopes to attempt under cover of darkness. Don’t worry: floodlights included.

Challenge Pack #1 – the initial pack of six bonus activities, one per sport, from Rapid Returner to Champion Chip.

This is a great way to pick up all the DLC and get back into playing Kinect Sports: Season Two.
Dance Central 3 multiplayer details
The folks over at Polygon had a chance to visit with Harmonix today to check out Dance Central 3‘s new eight player multiplayer. According to them, after dividing into two teams the players are picked out one by one by the Kinect’s camera in order to participate in head-to-head minigames. The games include the traditional match the moves on the screen mode, a H-O-R-S-E-esque mode where one player performs a move and their opponent has to match it, and a freestyle dance battle where players earned additional points for stealing each others’ moves. After the minigame rounds are completed the best player from each team faces off in a sudden-death match. We were excited when DC2 bumped up the number of players from one to two; adding the ability to get eight people in on the action gives a whole new level of excellence to Dance Central‘s status as a party game.

With a track list of over 40 new songs, you’ll go back through time to learn the dance crazes of days past, including “The Hustle,” “Electric Slide” and “The Dougie”. Dance Central 3 also features an 8 player “Crew Throwdown” mode devised of two 4-man teams battling head-to-head in performances, dance battles, and mini-games. With much more advanced and generally better choreography this could be the definitive dance game of 2012. Gore Verbinski’s Matter coming to Xbox
While most of the games portion of the Microsoft press conference was devoted to blockbuster hits such as Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, they did take a few minutes to look at some as-yet-unheard of titles. Matter is a game from the mind of Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, featuring a shape-shifting, tech heavy world. The star of the game appears to be a robotic sphere of some sort. Details are short right now, other than the fact that the game will release in 2013. Judging from the fact that it was announced alongside new games from Signal Studios and Twisted Pixel, it’s also possible that we can look forward to seeing Matter on XBLA. Stay tuned for more info as it develops!
