Kinect price drop

A Kinect price drop has been announced today via Major Nelson. The price is now $109.99 in the United States and a permanently reduced price will become available in the rest of North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific regions where Kinect is sold. On October 4th, Kinect’s price will also be permanently reduced in Australia and New Zealand. Amazon has already updated their price and if you are interested in picking one up you should click here. Hopefully this price drop convinces more people to pick one up and start enjoying all the benefits Kinect offers.

Spring dashboard update

Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, tweeted that the spring dashboard update for 360 is coming out during this fortnight, with a small number of users getting it this week and others the next.  While it will mostly contain “behind the scenes” tweaks, including groundwork for the Smart Glass system, it will also include some minor changes that are visible to users. The Avatar store is getting a place on the social tab right next to your avatar, and is also getting an update. What it contains is unknown but maybe the leaked Sonic Adventure 2 avatar gear might be in there somewhere.  Lastly profiles will now let you fill in height, weight, gender and age. This is presumably for Nike+ Kinect Training which was among the announcements at E3, but may also hint at something like Kinect Play Fit being revealed in the future.

Netflix update

An update was launched for Netflix today for all Gold members and current Netflix subscribers. The details are as follows:

  • Skip Forward/Skip Back allows you to move through movies quickly and between TV episodes easily. And with Kinect, just use your voice or the wave of your hand to activate this function.
  • Zoom function lets you enlarge letterboxed video content to full screen.
  • Better color contrast makes content more vivid and black levels darker.
  • Single sign on with cloud profile makes it easier to access your Netflix account on another Xbox, wherever you are.

Members from Canada, Latin America, the UK, and Ireland can also share TV shows and movies and find out what their friends are watching by connecting their Netflix account with their Facebook. All the updates are greatly appreciated and just add on to an already great service.
