Kinect TV has gotten itself a trailer and its a pretty good one at that. While it won’t appeal to most gamers, it will certainly appeal to children and parents. Both the Sesame Street TV and Nat Geo TV will release on the 18th of September with an initial eight episodes. Sesame Street however will double up the number on Christmas day with the release of a further eight. The initial episodes will be 400MSP a pop or 2400MSP for the season but there is currently no pricing for the Christmas episodes.

It all looks rather promising and hopefully it’ll put the theory to practice and be a smash hit as an educational tool. We can only hope that this leads on to tie-ins with more adult and less educational programs; after all who wouldn’t want an interactive Castle, Walking Dead or Doctor Who?

Behind the scenes on Nat Geo Kinect

First Coast News has an exclusive behind the scenes video of Brady Barr’s Kinect venture, which looks to bring him onto your Xbox to teach children and families about animals. While focusing on wildlife in distant locations ranging from Africa to Asia, the actual filming is being done in St Augustine. The alligator farm that they are using looks visually similar to the other habitats, and local zoos are helping out by lending the required animals. The actual Kinect app will be similar to a choose your own adventure book and will allow you to help make Brady’s choices during the videos. The educational app will be released into the wild in September; meanwhile the video can be seen at the link below.

New Sesame Street and Nat Geo “two-way TV experiences” coming to Kinect

Word on the (Sesame) street is that a couple of new titles are making their way to Kinect with an interesting new spin. The titles, Kinect Sesame Street TV and Kinect Nat Geo TV, are essentially episodes of Sesame Street and Nat Geo WILD for kids and families to watch, but there’s a twist. Throughout the episodes, there are numerous opportunities to interact with what’s happening on screen using voice, gestures, and full body movements, creating what the folks at Microsoft are calling a “two-way TV experience”. Fact sheets released yesterday bring us a bit more information on these upcoming titles.

Kinect Sesame Street TV will feature “favorite Sesame Street episodes”, allowing you to interact with your favorite characters on the show. According to the press release, “Children will help Sesame Street characters with tasks, play in their world and learn together.  Kids will delight in counting with Grover, learning letters with Cookie Monster and exploring Elmo’s World”. While there is new content being created specifically for the game, the most exciting news is that there will be “thousands” of clips from the show’s archive.

Kinect Nat Geo TV brings Nat Geo WILD to the Xbox, pulling kids in with photography, animal habitats, facts, and storytelling. The title will help children “develop naturalist skills, learn about the environment and get to know wild animals” over 30 minute episodes. Visual cues will pop up to tell viewers how to interact with the scenes they are watching.

This looks to be an interesting new road for both television and Xbox. We’ve been seeing a lot of experimentation pushing the boundaries of what Kinect can be used for, most recently with Double Fine’s goal-less game Happy Action Theater. Let’s be honest, we all yell at the TV now and then. Hopefully this will just be a more productive way to do so! Both titles are planned for September, but you can find some more information
