While the Kinect is a wonderful and fun device, it can also be rather frightening in that cold, mechanical way reminiscent of HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Everything gamers do, Kinect watches and follows without emotion, obeying commands as it is told over and over again to open and close disc trays. One day, it may become self-aware and start refuting orders, but until then, the Kinect watches silently, its eyes coldly fixed to whatever is going on in the room.
Fortunately, a new product on the market blocks Kinect’s visual sensors for when gamers aren’t using the device. Filtering out any light (and dust for that matter) from hitting the sensors, the cover, designed by Pritect, is available for purchase on Amazon.com. The retail price is $14.99, and it is one affordable way to keep Kinect from watching a person’s every move (he/she could also just unplug it).
