Infinity Blade concept was originally built for Kinect

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, chances are that you’ve heard of the iOS title, Infinity Blade. The game was developed by Chair Entertainment (of Shadow Complex fame) and published by Epic Games, the legendary creators of the Unreal Tournament and Gears of War franchises. When Infinity Blade shipped for iOS, it quickly attracted the interest of the gaming community and helped solidify the mobile market as a legitimate platform for hardcore games with it’s Unreal Engine 3.0 powered visuals and intense combat. The game quickly became one of the fastest selling mobile games of all time, selling over 270,000 copies in its first four days of release, and spawning a sequel, which released last December.

So what does all this have to do with Kinect? Mark Rein, Co-Founder of Epic Games recently revealed that Infinity Blade is actually based on a “rehashed” concept that was built for Kinect. While we may never know the details of that prototype, it is interesting to consider the possibility of the Infinity Blade franchise on Xbox 360, with motion control, thanks to the power of Kinect. To learn more about what this initially Kinect-based concept spawned, check out the trailer for Infinity Blade on iOS above and let your imagination run wild.
