Kinect TV trailer and Sesame Street TV details

[springboard type="youtube" id="nkJqlcSDtGc" player="xbla001" width="640" height="360" ]

Kinect TV has gotten itself a trailer and its a pretty good one at that. While it won’t appeal to most gamers, it will certainly appeal to children and parents. Both the Sesame Street TV and Nat Geo TV will release on the 18th of September with an initial eight episodes. Sesame Street however will double up the number on Christmas day with the release of a further eight. The initial episodes will be 400MSP a pop or 2400MSP for the season but there is currently no pricing for the Christmas episodes.

It all looks rather promising and hopefully it’ll put the theory to practice and be a smash hit as an educational tool. We can only hope that this leads on to tie-ins with more adult and less educational programs; after all who wouldn’t want an interactive Castle, Walking Dead or Doctor Who?

Ex-Rare dev reveals canned Kinect concept “Savannah” and much more

The folks over at NotEnoughShaders recently had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Don Murphy, a former and long time animator at Rare Ltd who shed some light on canceled projects, and life at Rare after the Microsoft acquisition. One of the most interesting tidbits involves a called Kinect project that was dubbed Savannah. The game was in its early stages of development at a time when Rare (or anyone else for that matter) lacked solid details on exactly what Kinect would be able to accomplish. The basic concept involved players raising a lion cub in an Africa-like environment. In this environment, teaching your cub survival skills would be just as important as social skills. The image above represents a pair of renders from Savannah, which was never officially green lit. We’d be surprised if you’re not thinking about raising a lion cub named Simba right now.

Mr. Murphy touched upon a variety of other subjects during the interview, including the direction of Rare after the Microsoft acquisition. At one point during the interview, it is mentioned that Rare wanted to pursue development of a new high-definition entry in their popular fighting franchise, Killer Instinct, but that Microsoft had pushed Rare to develop products for a wider audience like Viva Pinata, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Kameo: Elements of Power and eventually Kinect Sports instead. It’s also revealed that a more realistic and “darker” sequel to Kameo was once in development, but that like many other proposed projects at Rare, was shoved aside by Microsoft. You can dive into all the juicy tidbits revealed in the interview for yourself by following this link.

The plight of Rare is one of particular interest to Kinect owners as Rare is viewed as one of the development studios that Microsoft has focusing on its betterment. It has become apparent that the fates of both Rare as a developer and Kinect as a device are most certainly intertwined. To catch up on the past, present and future of Rare, be sure to check out Xbox Kinect Fans’ very first Primer feature on Rare, here.

Leviathan is expected to hit the Xbox Live Marketplace before the summer is over, launching at an 800 Microsoft Point price point. Visit South Park with new screens of The Stick of Truth

THQ has released new screenshots of South Park: The Stick of Truth, the only role-playing game that lets you step foot into the Alaskan town and fight your way to the top as the new kid in town. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the creators of Neverwinter Nights 2 and Fallout: New Vegas, The Stick of Truth brings the world of South Park alive like never before. The creators of the series (Matt Stone and Trey Parker) are working closely with the team at Obsidian to ensure that the game is a genuine South Park experience, granting players the ability to explore the world on their own for the first time. The developers are working hard to nail the look and feel of the show, and really make the player feel as if he is really part of South Park. You’ll even be able to verbally taunt Cartman and crew with voice commands thanks to the miracle of Kinect when the game launches on Xbox 360, which will be in March of next year. For now however, just feast your eyes on four new screenshots of the game by reading on, and start thinking about the verbal assaults that lie ahead in 2013.

DragonBall Z Screens!

Thanks to the watchful eye of @lifelower, we can bring you these rather interesting screenshots of Dragon Ball Z Kinect. The screenshots show varying scenes from across multiple sagas, so it should feature many of the main battles from throughout the series. Score attack is the one-on-one first person battles that are depicted in most of the screens below but the story mode looks as though it will at least in part keep the 3rd person view from previous games. Actions are portrayed on cards like they are Dance Central and depict different moves, including the kamehameha. Take a gander at the screenshots below and let us know what your thoughts are on the direction the game is taking.

Thanks again to @lifelower for the find.

I Am Super! but enough about me…

Kinect Fun Labs is known to be a space full of interesting tech demos, and now I Am Super! has been released. The game looks very much like a cross between Double Fine’s Happy Action Theater and Ubisoft’s PowerUp Heroes. Whether it plays that way has yet to be seen. You can control one of four different powers: Atomic, Frost, Flame or Storm, and can fight head to head with an opponent. Using powers is all based on certain motions and you can give your Hero (sorry villains) a name which appears when you come onscreen. It comes out at the very low price of FREE so if it looks interesting the 165MB download is all you need – and you can download it right here. If you play the game at all, please tell us what you think of it in the comments.
